Room Darkening Blackout Shades Solution

In the window treatment business, we are often hesitant to use the word “blackout” when describing the effects of a window treatment. In most cases window treatments do allow some light leakage even though we use opaque materials and an outside mount.

Light, much like water, will flow in different directions as it allowed resulting in some illumination of a room when the outside light source is present.

For this reason we often use the words “room darkening” as the room will be dramatically darkened, but the will not be a total absence of light (blackout).

Traditionally we often use layered treatments to eliminate as much light as possible.  For example, we might use a roman shade with a blackout liner in combination with drapery panels to really make the room dark.  While this is a beautiful and effective option, some customers don’t want this much bulk in and on their windows.  Others shy away from the costs.

Room Darkening Roman Shades with Drapery Side Panels

We now have a great system for using shades in conjunction with light blocking hardware that can achieve up to 99% light reduction of light passing through your windows.   Utilizing specifically designed headrail coverings, side channels and sill channels, you can have a completely dark bedroom or media room.

At ShadeCraft, we can also achieve this with our top-quality room darkening blackout shades, even with motorization, at a significantly lower cost than some of our more traditional options.
